Hope you doing well. Today I will share some info on the blue house here in HK. I knew about these place because of Nadech and Yaya. 2 Thai actors that I adore much who came to HK for holiday (I guess). I saw they on their instagram that they visit Hk last week and saw this picture and realize this place is not far from my place. So guess what. I did go there and snap similar photos :P
Blue House (Chinese: 藍屋)
This building is 4 storey balcony type tenement block. Its name after its blue color and known for one of the few remaining building of tong lau balcony type in Hong Kong and listed as Grade I historic building.
If you wish to come here you can just google Blue House. This place is nearby the Wan Chai Market, so in case you cant google map it on Blue House, use Wan Chai Market. Thats what happen to me last weekend, so I walk to Wan Chai Market and and to 72A Stone Nullah Ln. Dont mistaken this with the Wan Chai Police Station as that is more commonly known compare to this place, well at least to me. Another place to visit if you come here is the Yellow House.
The History
This building originally was the first hospital 'Wah To Hospital' (Wan Chai Kai Fong Hospital), which was built back in 1870s. The hospital was providing the Chinese medical services to the locals and possibly the first ever hospital built in the district.
After it was closed on 1886, the two-storey building was then used as a temple for Wah To, the revered Chinese physician from the Three Kingdom period. The building was demolished between late 1910s or early 1920s. It was then converted into 4 four0storey tenement blocks in mid-1920s. The building was subsequently used as martial arts school in 1950s by Lam Cho, the nephew of Lam Sai Wing and as osteophaty clinics in the 1960s.
The building was finally acquired by the government in the 1970s and the outer wall painted blue hence the name of it.
