Salam and hi everyone,

What is the best options to go to Macau from Hong Kong? If you ever visit Hong Kong and decided to visit Macau for a day or two, this is what I will recommend for you, FERRY. Ferry is the best option for you to get to Macau because its the cheapest option, fast and easy.

If you are staying on Hong Kong Island, make your way to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan. Decide which port you want to go in Macau, either its Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal or  Macau Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal.

How to get to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal

You can take tram or trains to this terminal. Tram will be the cheapest option but may take some time as it move pretty slow depends on traffic. Take the tram heading to Kennedy Town and stop at Western Market Terminus. Then just walk to the ferry terminal which is on the other side of the main road.
On the other hand, if you take the train, take the Island Line, stop at Sheung Wan station and exit on Exit D. Just walk along the hallway until you reach the terminal. The terminal is also attached to the mall with decent size. You can have meal there and so some shopping while waiting for your ferry or you just want to walk around.

Ferry Services to Macau

There are 2 companies that owns the ferry services; TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet. They have the ferries to depart every 30/60 minutes. Both companies take within an hour to get to Macau, have wifi on board, around the same price and provide similar services in term of ferry size, comfortability and the numbers of passengers. The main and only difference is the service time.

Ferry Ticket Price

The one way ticket cost around 150hkd - 200hkd for economy class depends on what time of the day you travelling. You can buy the ticket via online or at the counter. If you want to save some times, just book it online here. If you are just doing 1-2 days trip, I suggest for you to buy the ticket to Macau online and the return ticket at the counter. So have more flexible time on your journey and wont rush to go to terminal plus they usually have seats available at whatever time of the day you travelling to. Even if you miss one trip, the next one wont be far ahead.

Visa for Macau

As for the visa requirement thats depends on your nationality (of course, duh~ :P). I'm from Malaysia and we have the visa upon arrival for Macau. You can check here for your nationality.

I hope you find this somewhat helpful and informative. Enjoy your time in Macau. i will share my experience for a day in Macau in near future. (I will link it here once its ready). Thats all. Have a good day everyone.

Love,
